William H. Stuebe

Savannah, GA – William Henry Stuebe died peacefully at home on September 14, 2015, surrounded by his family. He had been diagnosed with metastatic melanoma in June.
Bill was born in Manhasset, New York on May 8, 1941, to Alma Mann Stuebe and William Joseph Stuebe. He was graduated from Lehigh University in 1963, where he was president of Delta Phi Fraternity. He spent more than 30 years in New York City working in commercial real estate investment management at several firms, including Chase Manhattan Bank, Banque Indosuez, and Richard Ellis International Limited.
His passion, however, was for residential real estate and historic preservation. In 1997, he joined Allan Schneider Associates in Southampton, New York as a residential real estate broker. In 1998, he and his wife Isabel moved to Savannah, Georgia, where he worked as a real estate broker for David Byck Realty and then for Celia Dunn Sotheby's International Realty. He helped to initiate the redevelopment of Broughton Street, and he became actively involved in the Historic Savannah Foundation, working closely with the architectural review board to ensure that new projects honored the scale and spirit of historic Savannah. In 2009, he won the Historic Savannah Foundation Nichola Parker Coe Volunteer Award. He also served as president of the Downtown Neighborhood Association and Chair of Urban Planning and Preservation. He advocated tirelessly for the details that make Savannah beautiful, such as the tree lawns that punctuate the city's sidewalks.
Bill is survived by his wife of 49 years, Isabel Combs Stuebe; his daughter Alison Mann Stuebe and her husband Geoffrey Freund Green of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; his son, David Allen Stuebe, and his wife, Shira Esther Hirshberg of Providence, Rhode Island; and his four grandchildren, Noah Stuebe Green, Samuel Stuebe Green, Max Stuebe Green, and Ayla Deanne Stuebe.
Services will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Savannah on Monday, September 21, at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at the Green-Meldrim House. A private family burial will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions be made to the William H. Stuebe fund at Historic Savannah Foundation, 321 E York St, Savannah, GA 31401.
